Photography Video Notes

First of all, watch the video to learn about how I take my photos, and then you will find all of the video notes and information from the video that I’ve recorded for your reference.

Feel free to print these notes for future reference so you can look back whilst taking or brainstorming your photos. Please note that I use a digital camera, but I think it’s totally fine to use your smartphone- it’s what I started off with.

All my videos and photography are filmed on a Canon EOS M3

You want to shoot your photos in a bright location with natural daylight. Most of my photos are taken in my room, and I place the scene right where the light reflects on my bed from my window. I will also turn the lights on in the room.

I like my backgrounds to be as white as possible. I think this really makes your focus point stand out, as well as the whole photo.

It’s taken me a while to get the hang of my camera, but I’m going to show you an example of how important it is getting to know your camera. (Please see video for the two different scenes I’ve shooted to point out the difference between two settings).

Camera setting I changed:

Exposure compensation dial was turned up but not too much. This adds brightness to your photos and creates less shadows and darkness.

Manuel focus turned on

So have a play around with your camera or smartphone and try and have a feel of what you want your photos to look like. Always make sure you have a focus point.

(If you would like detailed photography advice in the future please let me know and I’m happy to help with this)

The props are definitely something that helps make my photos look beautiful. And the great thing is they are things you may already have at home. Over the years I have collected many beautiful pink and pretty things that I now have the privilege to own.

  • Faux fur white or pink rugs
  • White or pink piece of cardboard
  • Scarves
  • Lingerie
  • Blankets
  • Clothes

  • Flowers
  • Books
  • Candles
  • Crystals and gems
  • Skincare
  • Make-up
  • Pillows
  • My iPhone
  • Jewelry
  • Mugs
  • Journals

I don’t like to overcrowd the photo with too much stuff, as well as too much color. The more pink and white the better it looks in my photos.

You may like to have your own specific colors and theme for your own aesthetic.

For the final touches for my photos, I use A Colour Story which is a photo editing app for your mobile phone. I don’t edit my photos too much but as you can see, I’ve gone into Tools and then I slightly adjust my brightness and sometimes exposure if I really need it. If I make it too much I will undo the action. It makes such a difference and is the icing on the cake!

It has taken me a while to finally get the hang of how I want my photos to look, but once you are in the flow of it it becomes easier and quicker every time.

Most importantly, shooting things you are passionate about is a must!

You don’t want to take photos of something you’re not into right? So have fun with it and it will get easier for you each time I promise.
