The other day on my Instagram, I was asked how I stay motivated on my journey, and I was going to write back in the comments, but then I thought that there are way too many contributing factors for this answer.
Every day is different, and depending on how I feel, different things can motivate me each time.
Life can be confusing, and hard, and dark at times, but there are things that can turn this darkness into lightness.
And there are things that can make the hard times turn into moments of realizing your potential and passions.
Once we are in this wonderful state of mind, our possibilities are limitless. Today on the blog, I’m going to share all of the things that motivate me and also help me keep going.
Making healthy choices
If I eat nourishing foods, I wake up feeling refreshed, awake, bright and happy. This happiness brings on my sparks of motivation. If I eat junk food, I feel the complete opposite. And believe me, I do make unhealthy choices sometimes, and I just feel terrible and less motivated to do anything.
Listening to music
When I’m blogging I like to listen to soothing and ambient soul/indie tracks to help me write and be in the ‘flow’ and in the zone. When I’m exercising I listen to my ‘favorite’ playlist. These songs are a combination of different genres, and once the endorphins from exercising kicks in, I feel so alive and my brain explodes with ideas and thoughts, as well as the motivation to keep exercising.
Always reading a book
Ever since I was young I have loved reading books. In my 20+ years was when I started reading non-fiction books such as nutrition, exercise, healthy lifestyle motivation, spirituality, self-care, and tons more. My favorite books so far have to be:
I haven’t mentioned every book, but each book has motivated me in some form in regards to my lifestyle, health and blogging journey. Filling up your mind with knowledge, and learning how to take care of yourself and be healthy can help you in so many ways, and motivation is one of them.
Growing up, I had an obsession with collecting magazines such as Dolly and Cosmo. I don’t read as much as I use to, but I will always treat myself to buying a couple of magazines that I really love and are filled with so much inspiration, articles and people that share their stories.
Sometimes we underestimate the power of an article, and how it can impact on someone’s day. My favorite magazines currently are:
Wellbeing, which is filled with advice on a healthy lifestyle including nutrition, exercise, herbs, natural beauty, organic gardening, natural beauty and eco awareness.
The Collective Hub, which is a magazine that is filled with motivating girl bosses and covers business, design, technology, social change, fashion, travel, food, film, and art.
My favorite inspiring quotes
I have a journal dedicated to anything that inspires me. Most of them are quotes. Whenever I’m feeling down or unmotivated, I go back to this journal and read through it. It’s really refreshing because we often forget about something that has touched us within a few weeks. Here are some of my favorite quotes.
“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says I’m possible.”- Audrey Hepburn.
“What if I fall? Oh, my darling, what if you fly?”- Erin Hanson.
“No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up and never give up”- Unknown.
“Like wildflowers; you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people thought you never would”-E.V
“In the end, she became more than what she expected. She became the journey, and like all journeys, she did not end, she just simply changed directions and kept going.” — R.M. Drake
Surrounding myself with like minded people, who are motivated and inspired, has definitely played a huge factor in staying motivated. Simply just being around somebody, who is so inspiring and positive, can motivate me to be a better person. Watching somebody rise above their struggles and share their story can influence me in my own ways. This also goes to the people you may follow on social media. There are heaps of #girlbosses who I have connected with online. I have found such a loving community. Keep these kinds of people in your life; their good energy is contagious!
If all else fails?
Some days, it’s okay to just want to be alone, curl up in your bed and accept that we can’t be motivated and inspired every single day. No matter how much we may try to have it all together, sometimes the moments of darkness can teach us things and show us a valuable lesson in the long run.
And for the person reading this, who is trying to find their own motivation, may you never give up on your journey. Let this be a sign that whatever path or crossroad you have found yourself on, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, you just have to go find it.
