On a regular basis, I am often complimented on my skin, how it is ‘healthy’ looking and has a ‘glow’. After many years of healthy eating and a consistent skincare routine- it is finally payed off. If you didn’t know before, I suffered a long acne journey which is finally clear, and I get treatments done on the regular basis for my post acne scarring, which you can read about here.
When I was 18, my skincare routine would consist of wiping my make off with chemical ridden facial wipes and I’d slap on some cheap moisturizer afterwards. Some nights, I would sleep with my make up on. (Uh oh, my skin specialist Martine would cringe!)
I’ve been using Australian ‘salon-prescription only’ cosmeceuticals ‘O-Cosmedics’ for the past year and a half.
“O Cosmedics has the worldwide exclusive rights to the V8 Peptide Complex™ and no other company worldwide can use it! The complex is highly regarded among skincare professionals for forging the way in proven anti-aging results. Found in all O products (excluding the pure C + BHA powder) V8 Peptide Complex™ works behind the scenes on the essential cell structure to age proof your skin and accelerate healing and rejuvenation, giving you ultimate skin health and skin youth”.
“Cosmeceuticals refers to the combination of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products with biologically active ingredients purporting to have medical or drug-like benefits. Dermatological research suggests that the bioactive ingredients used in cosmeceuticals have benefits beyond the traditional moisturizer…Cosmedics isn’t skincare rather skin medicine. Unlike cosmetics, cosmedics requires a skin expert to tailor a personal skin health prescription for every skin, this will ensure the skin has a chance to acclimatize to the actives and avoid sensitization”- Source: O-Comedics.
Sounds amazing doesn’t it? But there is work to be done on my half as well. Here is my anticipated and highly requested skin care routine and tips.
Cleansing is an absolute must! I cleanse my face morning and night with the Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser, which is suitable for all skin types. It has anti-pollutant boosters that trap dirt and excess sebum. In the morning, I will cleanse once, and in the evening, because I’ll most likely still have make-up on, I will cleanse twice. When I am cleansing, I make sure I rub the cleanser into circular movements for a few minutes. This ensures my face will receive a complete clean. A lot of people (which use to be me), just slap it on and rub it once or twice and wash it off straight away. This does not do the job. In the past 3 three years, I’ve slept with my make-up on once (oops!) thanks to alcohol. This is pretty good effort though!
I don’t exfoliate as much as I use to, most likely because my skin care products and my skin specialist Martine are doing a great job-yay! But when I do, I exfoliate once a week with the Exfoliating Cleanser. It is a cleanser and scrub in one, and is empowered with four physical exfoliating beads: cranberry seeds, diatomaceous earth, jojoba beads and hydrated silicone crystals. Once I’ve scrubbed gently, I leave it on for a couple of minutes to act as a mask. I will never exfoliate my skin if it is inflamed, red or post peel/needling treatments.
Part of my post acne scarring skin routine is using a Derma Roller, which is an at home skin needling treatment. If your not sure what skin needling is, read about it here on a previous blog post about scar treatments. Every Monday night, I use the derma roller after cleansing. I will use it with my serum, as I have dry skin, but you can also put serum on afterwards. My skin can get a bit red afterwards, but that means the derma roller is doing it’s job.
A serum is something that I think every woman should use. It will give you a glow and skin boost like no other skin product will. After cleansing and exfoliating, I use the B3 Plus. I like to massage the serum in morning and night for several minutes to make the product absorb more into the skin, and after a long day, it truly feels great doing it. The B3 Plus evens out your skin tone and boosts collagen production. It is perfect for people like me who suffer post acne hyperpigmentation.
Last but not least, after using a serum, I apply the Immortal Cream to my skin. This product is life changing! My skin can be quite dry and sensitive, and since using this cream- it has changed it completely. It is fortified with Vitamin C, and awakens and hydrates the skin. It also assists relaxation of muscles and helps to reverse and diminish the signs of aging whilst providing a feeling of instant lift. Although I am 25, I feel this cream will reverse and prevent my skin from ageing anytime soon!
Other skin care habits I swear by:
- Using sunscreen or foundation with sunscreen in it every day!
- When cleansing in the shower, not having the water too hot; this irritates sensitive skin and makes your skin go red.
- After using serum and moisturizer, rubbing the excess product into lips and hands for extra nourishment.
- Living a healthy lifestyle- plenty of antioxidant rich foods, exercising and self care like breathing and meditating.
If you live in Victoria, Australia- check out the salon I got to “The Skin Goddess”, run by Martine, who has been specializing in skin for over 30 years. She is amazing! I don’t know how my skin would look today without her.[wysija_form id=”1″]
