Trying To Find My Sense Of Style

Trying To Find My Sense Of Style

In my previous post, I talked about an urge to really find myself and embrace my true self, so here goes. I can’t believe I am writing a blog post about style, but here’s what’s on my mind.

For most of my life, I have always picked clothes that are either in fashion, or clothes that made me blend in- because the introverted part of me doesn’t want to be seen.

I have always felt like I go through phases of styles, picking a certain category to fit into- rather than having an individual style that suits me the best. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to get noticed or anything. I just really want to focus on expressing myself through the clothes I wear, picking out clothes I actually adore. Embracing fashion. I believe that fashion can be a form of self-love.

So I am going to focus on finding my sense of style in the next few months- colors, styles, accessories and even how I do my make-up.

I want to venture out to small businesses and boutiques, rather than the usual clothes haul at K-mart. Even visiting the op shops to find something unique and recycled. I want to feel good in what I wear. For so long I have felt like a blob. Like I’m not dressing to really embrace my personality. I am ready to embrace my fashion and find good quality items I can keep for a long time, rather than $10 cheap finds at K-mart.

This week I have been journaling and planning out a capsule wardrobe– first I want to get the basics in my wardrobe, things that I always will be wearing and actually feel comfortable in and then slowly find unique clothing items and accessories that suit my style to add to my collection.

Some Fashionistas I Love

My fellow blogging friend, Mairead Sullivan, who is the founder of The Wandering Mermaids, has the most colorful and unique fashion I’ve seen. Seeing her photos pop up on my Instagram feed really brighten my day. Her inner beauty shines through her fashion.

Another beautiful fashionista is one of my favorite YouTubers Cartia Mallan. Her out there, 70’s/boho fashion style is something I adore and always love seeing in videos and her photo shoots. She is so down to earth and I really look up to her. She recently brought out her own fashion line in collaboration with Princess Polly online clothing store.

Another YouTuber Freya Haley’s style is another I just love. I enjoy watching her lookbooks on YouTube, she has an earthy/vintage style and finds a lot of her fashion from op shops (also has a lot of videos about these). Another woman who’s style really embraces her personality and laid back nature.

And as for my fashion style… watch this space.

How do you feel about fashion? Do you embrace your fashion style? I’d love to know your thoughts.
